Campaign for Accountable Public Schools

This campaign was created to promote the youth, family and community voice as key stakeholders in the educational system. We are seeking to draw attention to the needs of our students and families in the public school system to ensure that our elected officials are being held accountable to us!

Knowing that social justice is rooted in the equality of opportunity, and that the most important opportunity we all get is that of a quality education, CAPS was born as a multi-faceted and idealistic approach to improving public education. Learn more about our goals and strategies here.

What is the Pledge?

The CAPS Pledge breaks down the six values we believe are necessary for a positive educational experience. Signing on to the pledge is the way the community shows they support our campaign

Our goal is to use both grassroots community outreach and policy development at the School Board level first to make this dream into a reality.

The Values Guiding CAPS are:

Academic Achievement: I believe that all Public School students have a right to college preparatory education.

Equal Opportunity: I believe that Denver Public Schools should distribute services, programs and opportunities to all students regardless of race, income or legal status.

Student Discipline: I believe that students learn best when they are in safe schools where school discipline is done in a way that protects the dignity of the student, and that keeps them learning in school.

Health: I believe that all students should have access to health education, prevention and counseling services and that comprehensive, evidence based sexuality education is a key part of any health education program.

Family Centered: I believe that Denver Public Schools should be accessible and friendly to all families.

Accountability: I believe in changing the way we assess programs and hold school administrators and educators accountable in order to raise academic achievement for all students.

We are with the Colorado C-3 roundatable to bring to you a series of amazing volunteer opportunities to ensure a strong voter turnout during this fall's election season. Only by increasing voter turnout in our communities can we ensure that our voices are heard. We know that not all of us CAN vote, but we can all volunteer and be active in our communities.

As you may have seen in the news, 11 state legislators from Colorado, members of the GOP Study Committee of Colorado (RSCC) are visiting Arizona with their counterparts to discuss SB 1070, other laws that apply to illegal immigration and more. These 11 members will be introducing legislation similar to SB-1070 in Colorado next year. This is a distraction to Colorado's real concerns. We need CIR at the Federal level. This pushes Colorado in the wrong direction. Colorado's elected officials should be focusing on the real concerns of Colorado, like jobs and the economy, rather than playing political games 3 months before the election.
