COLOR Advisory Committees:

COLOR relies on our advisory committees to guide and plan our work to promote Latina reproductive justice.  We believe that all of our work needs to be community driven. Our advisory committees also provide accessible leadership opportunities for our friends and allies to get more involved.  Current COLOR advisory committees opportunities include: 

Latina Health Summit Advisory Committee:

The Latina Health Summit is a day-long gathering if young Latinas from across Colorado who come together to gain skills and knowledge of issues affecting young Latinas and their families.

Mirna Castro-

is the Latina Program Director for Boulder Valley Women's Health Center.  She has been working in Boulder for 1 1/2 years.  Prior to working for a non-profit, Mirna was working for the Broomfield Public Health Department as a WIC nutrition educator/Deputy Registrar/Clinical Assistant for their family planning clinic.  She's originally from Dos Palos, California.  She has been married to Adalberto Castro for 8 years, they have 2 wonderful kids Marcos Damian who is 7 and Ariana Lizvette who is 6.  Aside from working in Boulder to provide accessible and quality healthcare to women, you can also find Mirna working in the evenings at her husbands restaurant in Broomfield, La Casita de Durango.

Katie Thiede

Katie is passionate about fundraising and especially enjoys working with individual donors to maximize their capacity to give.  She is thrilled to be a part of the work that the Chinook Fund as the Resource Development Director.  When she's not contributing to social change efforts, she spends most of her free time reading, writing, traveling, and being outside. 

Issamar Pichardo

Issamar is 17 years old and one of COLOR's most active Latinas of Vision Lideres. Her family is originally from Chihuahua, MX and she is currently a senior at West High School. Issamar is a big sister and lives with her grandparents. Issamar's activism was ignited by her grandparents when she was a little girl, and she believes in the power of young Latinas. COLOR is very fortunate to have such a strong woman supporting the Latina Health Summit

Jenny Santos

Jenny was born in Los Angeles, CA, second child of four from Mexicano parents. She has been involved in community organizing ever since high school and worked on various issues to create systemic change and empower communities of color.  Jenny’s passion is to create social justice and protect human rights through the efforts of community organizing and working with those who are directly impacted by an issue, so they can bring forth systemic changes and empowerment back into the community.

Charlene Barrientos-Ortiz

Charlene Barrientos Ortiz began her health career at Denver Public Health in 1994 where she was a Senior Clinical Care Associate. Ms. Ortiz has a strong interest in community activism. From 1990 to 2000 she worked as a Dollar A Day Counselor at the Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains in Denver. Ms. Ortiz is a founding board member of COLOR (Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights), a co-chair and member of the Latino HIV/STD Advocacy Coalition, a public health council member of Project CADENA, a member of Conexión Latina Contra VIH/SIDA/ETS en Colorado, a resource consultant for the Center for Health Policy and Development in San Antonio, Texas, and a consultant for Mi Casa Resource Center for Women. Ms. Ortiz is currently working on the POWER (Prevention Option for Women Equal Rights) and Youthnet research projects as a research coordinator.

Latina/o Advocacy Day Advisory Committee:

The Latina/o Advocacy Day is an annual two-day event where COLOR and other leaders in teh Latina/o community come together to advocate and lobby for policies that are important to our community. Please contact us for more information.
