The Governor\u2019s administration proposed an aggressive agenda of cuts to Cover All Coloradans. The ones approved by the Joint Budget Committee \u2014 though less aggressive \u2013 still represent a substantial shift away from the intent and design of the Cover All Coloradans program. These changes would significantly downgrade the quality of care by reducing access to managed and integrated care and behavioral health services, capping dental benefits at $750 annually, freezing enrollment in long-term services and supports for children, and implementing a children\u2019s enrollment and spending cap.<\/p>

The changes come after three years of intentional investment to build awareness, trust, and participation in the program. Families were encouraged to enroll, use their coverage, and seek preventive and early care, exactly as the program was designed.<\/p>

Now, access is being restricted at a moment when it is most needed. As preventable diseases re-emerge and communities continue recovering from the impacts of COVID-19, limiting access to preventive care, vaccinations, and early treatment increases risk for all of us.<\/p>

Representative Lorena Garcia, alongside Representatives Velasco and Zokaie, showed what it looks like when elected leaders move with courage and community at the center, advancing an amendment to restore access to health care for immigrant children and pregnant people in Colorado, and pushing further to include dental benefits.<\/p>
