La justicia reproductiva trata sobre el derecho a tener hijos, a no tenerlos y a criarlos en comunidades seguras y saludables. Este \u00faltimo aspecto suele pasarse por alto, pero es igual de fundamental. Y una de las mayores amenazas es nuestro sistema de justicia penal.<\/span><\/p>

Cada vez que hablamos de criminalizar la posesi\u00f3n de drogas, en realidad hablamos de qui\u00e9n termina tras las rejas y qui\u00e9n termina criando a una familia sola. Las duras sentencias obligatorias no solo castigan a una persona. Apartan a un padre o una madre de su hogar, a una pareja de su relaci\u00f3n y dejan sin sustento a una familia, a veces durante a\u00f1os.<\/span><\/p>

Esto es lo que las investigaciones siguen demostrando: las penas m\u00e1s severas por delitos de drogas no reducen el consumo ni la venta de estupefacientes. No hacen que las comunidades sean m\u00e1s seguras. Lo que s\u00ed consiguen es llenar las c\u00e1rceles y separar a familias que ya ten\u00edan dificultades para salir adelante.<\/span><\/p>

Cada persona que va a prisi\u00f3n representa una familia transformada de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana. Un ni\u00f1o crece sin uno de sus padres. Un hogar pierde ingresos, cuidado infantil y estabilidad de golpe. Cuando dise\u00f1amos pol\u00edticas centradas en el castigo en lugar del apoyo, son las familias quienes asumen el costo.<\/span><\/p>

Las pol\u00edticas centradas en el castigo tienen otro costo oculto. El miedo al arresto impide que las personas pidan ayuda durante una sobredosis o una crisis. Cuando la respuesta a una emergencia m\u00e9dica es la c\u00e1rcel en lugar de la atenci\u00f3n, perdemos vidas que podr\u00edan haberse perdido. Ese miedo no hace que nadie est\u00e9 m\u00e1s seguro; solo hace que las personas se sientan m\u00e1s solas.<\/span><\/p>

La justicia reproductiva y la reforma de la justicia penal tratan sobre si las familias pueden permanecer unidas y si las personas pueden criar a sus hijos sin la amenaza constante de un sistema construido para castigar en lugar de apoyar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
