From attacks on affordable health coverage programs to extreme climate conditions that threaten frontline workers to federal attempts to suppress voting access, Latine communities are being harmed by policies that threaten their access to care, dignity, and self-determination.
We know when our people are denied care or forced to work in unsafe conditions, it is not simply a policy failure; it is a barrier to dignity, to belonging, and to life. This is the call we carry: Latines deserve care without barriers!
The new Federal Budget Bill cuts over $930 billion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, putting hundreds of thousands in Colorado at risk of losing health coverage—all to fund tax breaks for the wealthy and big corporations.
According to the 2024 Agenda de políticas para los latinos en Colorado, 41% of Latinos are enrolled in Medicaid—more than the 39% who get insurance through their employer. In the Denver Metro Area, 33% of Latinos have been dropped from Medicaid in the past year—the highest rate in the state.
Extreme heat is another consequence of climate change affecting the Latino community, with many Latinos concentrated in labor market sectors that are exposed to extreme temperatures, including both hot and cold conditions, such as landscaping, agriculture, and construction.
A 2021 study from researchers at the University of California and Stanford University found that low-income workers experience five times as many heat-related injuries as those who are the highest earners. The overwhelming majority (85%) of Latino registered voters in Colorado support regulations to protect outdoor workers from extreme heat and cold.
Our community deserves better! If you believe Latines deserve care without barriers and are ready to fight for a future where everyone can access care, dignity, and self-determination, join our movement!
